What are Student Officers?

Student Officers organise the conference and debate on the days of the conference. They directly supervise debate and carry out the orders of the Board of Directors in compliance with what is required according to the rules of procedure and debate procedure. Student Officers are both Chairs & Administrators. Visiting schools are only given the opportunity to become visiting Chairs, whilst the role of Administrators is restricted to Halcyon students.

Student Officers are overseen and organised by Academic Advisors whom are responsible for organising both the Chairs and Administrators for the conferences. During a conference, Student Officers are required to report to their assigned AA.

What do Administrators do?

Admins assist the Chairs at the conference by securing the doors and passing notes. They are also responsible for ensuring that the conference remains orderly and enjoyable for everyone. Admins are also responsible for monitoring the airlock entry system, and ensuring that the flow of delegates into and out of the building is regulated.

What do Chairs do?

Chairs are responsible for running the council they are assigned to. Chairs are unpartial to debate and uphold debate procedure by deciding what resolutions/amendaments are debated, which delegations speak, and how the conference unfolds. Chairs are responsible for ensuring that their conferences run smoothly and are on-schedule. Chairs are excellent organisers, leaders, and communicators and are expected to always present themselves professionally and in accordance with the rules of procedure.

Become a Student Officer

Becoming a Student Officer is easy. If you are a Halcyon student, you will receive an e-mail nearing the date of an MUN conference offering you the chance to sign up for the conference as a Student Officer. If you are from a visiting academic institution, you must register your interest with your schools MUN Director who will then contact the HLISMUN organisation.
